Job Summary:
The Museum Intern is a seasonal, part-time position working directly under the supervision of the Museum Curator. The Museum Intern will work in the areas of collection management, exhibitions, and programming. The Museum Assistant may also perform these duties at the Nature Classroom.
Program Details
• Duration: June - August (120–130 total hours)
• Compensation: $16 per hour
• Schedule: Flexible; to be determined with supervisor
Qualifications
• Interest in museums, history, education, or related fields
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Experience with research, writing, or working with the public is a plus
Essential Functions:
Collections Management
1. Cataloging procedures and collections documentation
2. Preservation and care techniques for different material types
3. Research methods and resources for museum collections
4. Monitoring and maintaining collections storage
Exhibitions
1. Participate in brainstorming exhibit themes
2. Assist with selecting objects for display
3. Write and edit exhibit label copy
4. Design exhibit labels
5. Help build mounts and assist with exhibit installation
Programming
1. Work on the design of school programs (with an emphasis on K–5 audiences)
2. Interact with visitors during public programs and craft days
3. Give engaging museum tours
Other
1. Assists with museum special events, administrative tasks, and exhibit installation when necessary.
2. Perform other duties as assigned.
